(A) The growth of cities takes place in a specific method.

(C) Industrialisation causes cities to develop.

(D) Pollution- A problem

Answer A: Agriculture is believed to be a prerequisite for cities, which help preserve surplus production and create economies of scale. A good environment and strong social organization are two necessities for the formation of a successful city. A good environment includes clean water and a favorable climate for growing crops and agriculture. A strong sense of social organization helps a newly formed city work together in times of need, and it allows people to develop various functions to assist in the future development of the city.

Answer B: Cities are the most modern place for living in our society. We can avail every modern facility in the city easily due to the modernization of science and technology. A dream city of anyone should consist of these features:

  • The whole layout of the city is planned in a scientific way.
  • All facilities are easily available due to modernization
  • Pollution is also minimised due to the implementation of eco friendly technologies.

Answer C: The development and concentration of industries in a region is a factor contributing

towards urbanisation. Increase in industries leads to increase in the hopes of people who are attracted towards these industries from surrounding areas. This increases the speed of urbanisation. In the 19th century, Mumbai grew rapidly because textile mills started on a large scale in Mumbai. Many villages, which were originally fishing villages (koliwadas), became part

of Mumbai metropolitan area because of industrialisation and urbanisation.

Answer D: Pollution is a major problem in the cities. It has adverse effects on urban life. Air pollution, noise pollution and water pollution are clearly visible. Increase in the development of the city, paucity of facilities and breaking of laws makes pollution a big problem. As cities grow, pollution also increases.
